Winter Weather Advisory For Heavy Snow Across The Kenai Peninsula

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory is in effect until Midnight Saturday for large amounts of snow for the cities for Kenai, Soldotna, Nikiski, Homer and Cooper Landing.

 

Heavy snow is expected throughout. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 9  inches, with localized amounts up to 12 inches, are expected.

 

Plan on slippery road conditions. Expect reduced visibilities at times.

 

Another advisory is in effect  from Noon Saturday and until Noon Sunday for Portage Valley and the Eastern Turnagain Arm which includes the cities of Whittier, Seward, Girdwood, and Moose Pass.

 

Snow and blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches, with localized amounts up to 15 inches, are expected.

 

Winds gusting as high as 40 mph will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow. Visibilities will be reduced to one half mile or less at times in falling and blowing snow. Use caution when traveling, especially in open areas. Travel may be difficult.

 

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
