The ASAA 2019 Nordic Ski State Championships open three days of competition at the Birch Hill Recreation Area in Fairbanks on Thursday with nordic ski teams and individuals from throughout Alaska.
Kenai and Soldotna high school skiers have traveled to Fairbanks to compete in classic, freestyle and mixed relay events running Thursday through Saturday.
Nordic State Race Format: The state championships are held over a three-day period with one race for boys and one race for girls each day. The races include two individual competitions and one relay competition. Girls will start first on freestyle days and boys will start first on classic days. Mass Starts will use a chevron start system to provide a better and safer opportunity for the best skiers to advance to the front.
Race order for ODD years:
Day 1 – Individual Classic Technique Race (7.5k boys, 5k girls)
Day 2 – Mass Start Free Technique Race (7.5k girls, 10k boys)
Day 3 – Team Relays (4x3k girls followed by 4x5k boys)

In short, everyone is eligible regardless of performance at regional or borough events.
