The brackets and pairings for the 2019 ASAA March Madness Alaska State Basketball Championships, for all four classifications of high school basketball, were released on Sunday in advance of the 1a, 2A, 3A, and 4A state basketball tournaments scheduled for the next two, extended weekends.
1A State Basketball March 13-16 Alaska Airlines Center at UAA
The 1A basketball tournament includes four days of competition with the first day including 32 teams paired in 16 games ( eight girls and eight boys); the winner’s and losers placed into three-day brackets. All games will be played at the Alaska Airlines Center at UAA.
The #1 seed into the tournament on the girls side is King Cove. King Cove is undefeated and 26-0 on the season. Klawook earns the #2 seed at 16-0.
The boys #1 seed is also King Cove, 21-3 on the season, and the #2 seed belongs to Tanana.

2A State Basketball March 13-16 Alaska Airlines Center at UAA
The 2A basketball tournament begins three days of competition on Thursday, March 14th with girls and boys, eight-team brackets. No Kenai Peninsula teams play in the 2A classification.
3A State Basketball March 21-23 Alaska Airlines Center at UAA
The 3A State Basketball tournament runs March 21-23, Thursday through Saturday at the Alaska Airlines Center at UAA. Eight girls and eight boys teams are bracketed. State qualifiers are determined based on conference tournament results.

The Soldotna Stars are awarded the #4 seed in the 4A girls bracket and will face #5 West Anchorage on Thursday, March 21st in the 9:30 a.m. game. Wasilla, NLC Champion, are seeded #6–NLC Colony does not receive one of two at-large berths. West and Chugiak are the at-large teams.

The Soldotna Stars, NLC runner-up, are seeded #5 and will face #4 West Anchorage in the tournament’s first round on Thursday, March 21 at 11 a.m. The Colony boys and the West boys receive the two at-large berths for 4A division. Colony will be #2 seed overall. The reigning state champion Wasilla does not qualify to the 4A state tournament.
