Peninsula Conference soccer filled the local soccer fields on a blustery Tuesday with the Soldotna Stars sweeping a pair of contests against the Nikiski Bulldogs and the Kenai girls and boys playing even with the Homer Mariners at split venues.
SoHi Girls 2 – Nikiski 0
Playing with the wind in the first half at Justin Maile Field, the Soldotna girls posted two goals and recorded a 2-0 shutout of Nikiski in Peninsula Conference action at SoHi.
Meijan Leaf netted both SoHi goals both coming midway through the first half, the first on a header and the second set up by Ryann Cannava and Sierra Kuntz.
The SoHi girls improve to 1-0-1 in conference play; Nikiski drops to 0-2 in the conference.
SoHi Boys 4 – Nikiski 1
The Soldotna boys responded to an early Nikiski goal with four, unanswered, second half goals to record a 4-1 Peninsula Conference soccer victory on the Stars home field.
Nikiski opened the scoring with a Pedro Souza goal on a break-away giving Nikiski a 1-0 lead into the half. The Star boys mounted a second half, offensive attack with included a penalty kick goal by Alex Montague, a second turn-over goal for Montague, a Kaleb Swank goal to give SoHi a 3-1 lead and a final goal for Josh Heiber pushing the score to 4-1. The Star boys stand at 2-0 in the Peninsula Conference standings.
Kenai Girls 0 – Homer 0
Wind-aided applies only to the defense in the Kenai girls vs Homer girls pairing at KCHS on Tuesday. Both teams struggling to mount offensive attacks and both teams scoreless for the Peninsula Conference game.
Kenai Boys 1 – Homer 1
In Homer, the Kardinal boys took a first half lead of 1-0 on a Leif Lofquist goal midway through the first half. Homer answered with a goal early in the second half for the 1-1 tie. Kenai stands at 1-0-1 in conference play; Homer owns a 1-1-1 conference record.
