The Soldotna City Council met Wednesday night and a consent agenda item was passed that would commend the Soldotna Police Department, in recognition of the officers and administrative staff for their service to the city.
Soldotna Mayor Paul Whitney, “A basic tenant of America Society is built upon the partnership between law enforcement and the constituent parts of local society. In Soldotna, youth and elder, residents and tourists, businesses large and small are all served by SPD. Whereas, SPD is a key component ensuring the safety of our community in the following: roadway safety, medical care facilities and tourism; providing examples of safety in our local schools and educational activities; sheltering and protecting all levels of commerce and the many and varied individuals, that depend upon the services and opportunities offered within our community; supporting residents and their families during life-threatening situations and events; working within the local, state and national network of agreements to assist residents and visitors throughout our area; providing assistance to senior citizens and the many non-profit organizations that greatly enhance our quality of life for all.”
The Soldotna Police Department was established in July 1969 and reportedly was the first department in the state to be accredited through the Oregon Accreditation Alliance, meaning that their operations, management, policies, and procedures meet the standard practices that the industry has to offer. The City Council states that SPD employees deserve the appreciation and respect of residents for their merit, dignity, bravery and reliability.
The resolution was adopted Wednesday night.
