As of May 16, Captain Andy Greenstreet from the Soldotna Alaska State Trooper post will take his new position as Major in Anchorage, following a recent promotion to Operational Commander.
The captain has been in state law enforcement for over twenty years…
Capt. Greenstreet: “I actually started my law enforcement career back in 1994 when I went through the ALET Academy in Sitka. I worked three years in the Sitka Police Department and then a year at Palmer, then I transferred over to the Troopers, I did a lateral transfer, and that was back in 1998, so I’ve been with the Troopers since that time. I’ve been the E Detachment Commander almost five years. August first would have been my five years.”
As Operational Commander, Greenstreet will oversee all the detachments throughout the Public Safety Department. He spoke about the ideas he will implement in his new position as Alaska faces a shrinking budget and rising drug problem.
Capt. Greenstreet: “While there’s certainly no shortage of problems, the drug issue certainly rises to the top of that list. I think we’ll definitely be taking a look at different partners that we can work with out there, whether it’s rehabilitation, the courts, the enforcement, the prosecutor’s office, and just different resources that are out there and kind of leverage some of those resources to kind of pull in the same direction and combat the need.”
Greenstreet says he is excited about the new challenges of his promotion. Although the position relocates him and his wife to Anchorage, the Kenai Peninsula holds a special place in their heart and Greenstreet says he’d like to move back one day.
