Four central peninsula high school basketball teams and the Kardinal cheer squad have qualified for the upcoming ASAA 3A and 4A State Basketball Championships and State Cheer Competition and each will receive its own send-off on Wednesday morning.
KCHS Girls Basketball: 3A
Kenai Central High School will send off the Kardinal girls basketball team and cheer squad at 9:10 a.m. Wednesday with a tunnel of students and the Kardinal drum line. The Kardinal team bus will be escorted by Kenai Fire, Police and Alaska State Trooper to Mountain View Elementary where the team will receive another send-off from the young, future Kards.
The Kardinal cheer squad will compete in the ASAA State Cheer Competition on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at the Alaska Airlines Center at UAA.
Nikiski Girls Basketball: 3A
The Bulldog girls will receive a full-school send-off on Wednesday when a scheduled 8:45 a.m. fire alarm will allow for the entire student body to send the Nikiski girls to the ASAA 3A State Basketball Championships. The Nikiski girls head down the highway at 9 a.m.
SoHi Girls & Boys Basketball: 4A
The Soldotna Stars girls and boys teams head to the ASAA 4A State Basketball Championships with a school-wide exit ceremony through the school and an escorted motorcade down Marydale and the Spur Highway to the “Y” and out of town. Team buses will be lead from Soldotna by Soldotna Police, CES Fire and Alaska State Troopers. The caravan leaves SoHi at about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday.
