Peninsula Athletes Shine At Collegiate Conference Championships

The collegiate outdoor track and field competitive season has moved into conference, regional and in June national championships.

A number of graduates from area high schools continue to excel in each’s respective event and division.

 

Danielle McCormick-UAA

Danielle McCormick, SoHi Class of 2015 and UAA track standout, repeated as the GNAC women’s 800M champion at the GNAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon on Saturday.

Dani clocked a 2:08.67 in the 800M final to claim the 2019 title.  Dani also finished third in the 1,500M run.  University of Alaska, Anchorage won five individual titles and broke four championships records at the GNAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The national meet will be held May 23-25 in Kingsville, Texas.

Allie Ostrander-Boise State

Allie Ostrander, Kenai High Class of 2015 and Boise State track red-shirt junior, raced to a second, straight 5,000 meter conference championship at the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Clovis, California.

Allie posted a winning time of 15:45.66, automatically qualifying her for the Division I West Region Track Championships.

Allie also finished second in the 1,500M in a time of 4:21.47.

Brenner Furlong- Dakota State

Brenner Furlong finish second to his Dakota State teammate in the 400M in a personal record time of 48.64 seconds, which was just .14 seconds short of producing qualifying time for the NAIA nationals.  His time is the second fastest in the school record book.

The Trojans dominated the 4 x 400-meter relay race, with Brenner Furlong, posting a championship time of 3 minutes, 23.46 seconds.  The 4 X 400M relay team qualifies to the 2019 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala. on May 23-25.

Jonah Theisen-Black Hills State University

Jonah Theisen, KCHS Class of 2015, has been named to the RMAC All-Academic First Team, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced.

Theisen, a senior from Kenai, Alaska, holds a 3.889 GPA in physical science.

Jonah Theisen won the RMAC Championship in the steeplechase with an automatic qualifying time and currently sits among the best in the nation. He has now been named to the All-Academic First Team six times in his career, in addition to three Honor Roll appearances.

Jordan Theisen- Black Hills State University

Jordan Theisen, KCHS Class of 2015, finished 15th in the 800M run at the Oxy Invitational in Los Angeles, California.  Jordan also finished 22nd in the 15ooM run.
