Nikiski Fire Station #3 Officially Opens Today

The Nikiski Fire Department confirmed that Fire Station 3 officially opens today where it will house an engine and ambulance with 2 personnel 24/7 365 days a year. An official opening ceremony is being planned for a future time to be determined. This comes as construction for the station began in January 2020.

Nikiski Fire Chief Bryan Crisp spoke to KSRM, “As you know, the project started back in 2002-2003 and so it finally got the approval last year to start building Station 3 out here in the Nikiski Fire Service Area to help that area because it was designated an ISO 10 on the insurance rating, which means people had hired insurance or couldn’t get insurance at all on their property. That was the purpose of putting in that station on to lower insurance costs. It goes from ISO 10 down to an ISO 6. Plus, we get quicker response times for fire and EMS in that area out there on the corner of Holt Lamplight and Escape Route. That was the purpose. We finally got to a point with all of the construction stuff that we were able to get into the building and we got everything put together and got the trucks in there yesterday. We are officially open and manned today at 8am.

This news comes after $3.2 million was appropriated to update the 16-year-old design documents, complete construction, and equip the station with its basic facility needs. The Nikiski Fire Service Area Board approved a design project for Station #3 in 2003.

Those residents that live within the area of Station 3 please use this informational letter (seen below) when contacting your insurance company to review your insurance plan coverage. If there are any questions from the insurance companies please have them contact the Nikiski Fire Department.
