Moda Health announced Monday that it will withdraw from offering individual health insurance for visiting the US and in Alaska in 2017.
Today’s announcement means the Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield will be the only health insurance company offering individual policies in the state through the federally facilitated marketplace.
Alaskans are concerned with high claim costs and a lack of insurance options in the state.
In Moda’s press release the company says it will re-evaluate Alaska’s individual market in early 2017 and consider a return in future years. However, the current system “requires significant reform in order to be sustainable for Alaskans and for Moda.”
Moda will remain a provider in Alaska for group medical, as well as individual and group dental plans.
