On Friday March 1, 2019 at 10:44 pm Anchor Point Fire & EMS and Alaska State Troopers were dispatched to a structure fire at 65666 Nikolaevsk Road.

12 firefighters from Anchor Point Emergency Services responded with 2 engines, 1 tanker, 1 ambulance and 2 command vehicles. Crews arrived to find an 1120 square foot house with fire showing on an exterior porch that extended into multiple interior rooms.

Initial attack crews were able to knock down exterior fire quickly and make entry to fully extinguish interior fire. Mutual aid for a tanker was requested from Kachemak Emergency Services, but was later cancelled due to quick extinguishment efforts and sufficient water supply available from a nearby hydrant.

The fire is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office. According to Alaska State Troopers, Derek Jokay, was seen walking away from the home immediately after the fire was discovered.

Subsequent investigation led to Jokay’s arrest for Arson in the second degree. He was transported to Homer Jail without incident.
