Kenai City Council To Discuss Tourism, Presentation Touts Kenai “The Best Place To Alaska”

Tourism on the Kenai Peninsula took a major, unprecedented hit last year due to the COVID-19 public health emergency. Despite Borough Mayor Charlie Pierce declaring that the Kenai was “open for business,” things were not the same. Among the items on the agenda for Wednesday’s Kenai City Council meeting will be a conversation about the future of the City of Kenai’s tourism and marketing.

Coy West will be offering a presentation before the Council during the Wednesday night meeting, the first of 2021. West works for Divining Point, a Texas marketing firm hired by Kenai in October 2019 to showcase Kenai as more desirable destination to visitors from all over Alaska and the world.

The presentation will be based around a video entitled “How Do You Alaska,” set to promote tourism within Kenai. It introduces the slogan, “Kenai: The Best Place To Alaska.” The video begins by showcasing the fresh food of the region, followed by a series of cuts featuring fishing spots, ski slopes, majestic running paths, eventually taking to the air to show Kenai from above in an aircraft flown by Kenai City Councilmember Henry Knackstedt.
