The Kenai Kardinal varsity soccer teams allowed a single goal in a pair of Peninsula Conference victories over the Nikiski Bulldogs at KCHS on Thursday.
Kenai Girls 3 – Nikiski 0
Kenai goalie Kailey Hamilton recorded a 3-0 shutout for the Kenai girls denying Nikiski throughout the Peninsula Conference pairing.
Taylor Pierce opened the scoring with a Kardinal goal mid-way through the first half. Olivia Brewer scored a pair of goals for Kenai. Nikiski goalie Abby Bystedt turned-away nine shots.
Kenai Boys 4 – Nikiski 1
The Kardinal boys and Nikiski boys played to a 1-1 tie in the first half; then Kenai scored three, unanswered goals for the 4-1 Peninsula Conference victory at KCHS.
Kenai’s Travis Verkuilen scored the opening goal; Nikiski’s Gavin White tied the game in the following minute. The Kardinals opened the second half with a Leif Lofquist goal, added a second Damien Redder goal and a second Lofquist goal. Nikiski’s Michael Eiter turned-away 12 shots in the loss.
