Governor Mike Dunleavy is making his presence felt on the Central Peninsula. Not just with regards to policy, but also with an official regional office based out of Soldotna. The news was first delivered to the public at last Wednesday’s joint Kenai / Soldotna Chamber luncheon.

Jeff Turner of Governor Dunleavy’s office has details: “The Kenai Peninsula is one of the most populated regions in the state – it hasn’t had a regional governor’s office for many years. The governor decided that it was time to – we needed to expand our presence and our relationships with Alaskans that are living down on the Kenai Peninsula. It was really the one large regional area that didn’t have an office, so we’re glad to announce that opened recently, and we have Jill Schaefer, a well-known Kenai Peninsula resident representing the governor on his behalf down there on the Kenai Peninsula.”

What will Jill Schaefer be responsible for? “Jill will be the regional liaison for the office of the governor in the Kenai Peninsula. So, she’ll be having meetings with constituents as-needed. She’ll also appear at various public forums down on the Kenai, chamber of commerce meetings, that sort of thing. She’ll be there to gather information for the governor’s office, answer any questions that she can, and if there’s something she can’t unpack for residents, she’ll certainly pass-along that information to the governor’s office and we’ll get her the information she needs to relay to Kenai Peninsula residents.”

The Soldotna office can be contacted via telephone at (907) 420-3999.
