Freestyle Ski Highlighted Nordic State On Friday

The ASAA 2019 Nordic Ski State Championships featured freestyle competition at the Birch Hill Recreation Area in Fairbanks on Friday with girls and boys individual races.

 

Girls Individual Freestyle Technique Race Results: Friday, February 22

West Valley’s Kendall Kramer lead the pack in the girls individual freestyle event posting a time of 23:37, a victory margin of 48.5 seconds.

Kenai’s Maria Salzetti lead the central peninsula skiers with a 29th place finishing in 27:44.6  SoHi’s Katie and Hannah Delker finished 39th and 40th in the freestyle, posting times of 29:53.8 and 29:55.8.  SoHi’s Erica Arthur finished 45th and Isabella Dammeyer, 48th and Sonora Martin, 51st.

 

Boys Individual Freestyle Technique Race Results: Friday, February 22

South Anchorage’s Zanden McMullin topped the boys field in the freestyle posting a time of 25:56.1, nearly a full minute ahead of the lead pack.

SoHi’s Bradley Walters lead the central peninsula skiers with a 28th place and a time of 30:09.8.  SoHi’s Jeremy Kupferschmid finished 32nd in 30:33.6.; Jack Harris finished 46th.

 

 

Nordic State Race Format: The state championships are held over a three-day period with one race for boys and one race for girls each day. The races include two individual competitions and one relay competition.  Girls will start first on freestyle days and boys will start first on classic days. Mass Starts will use a chevron start system to provide a better and safer opportunity for the best skiers to advance to the front.
Race order for ODD years:
Day 1 – Individual Classic Technique Race (7.5k boys, 5k girls)
Day 2 – Mass Start Free Technique Race (7.5k girls, 10k boys)
Day 3 – Team Relays (4x3k girls followed by 4x5k boys)
