The Cook Inlet Academy girls, champions of the Peninsula Conference, opened first-round play at the ASAA 1A State Basketball Championships on Wednesday, falling to Kake 33-28.

Kake, from Southeast, built a 20-10 lead over CIA at the half and lead by twelve after three quarters. The Eagles opened the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run to draw to within a basket at 26-24. Kake answered with seven, straight points and held-off CIA 33-28.
Adara Warren lead the Eagles with 11 points. CIA shot only 23% for the game.
The Eagles move to the consolation bracket and will play the loser of tonight’s King Cove, #1 seed, vs Newtok at 5 p.m. On Thursday.

The Warriors girls pulled-away in the third quarter for a 43-31 victory in the first- round at the 1A state championships. Elizabeth Fefelov scored 17 for the Warriors girls.
Nikolaevsk Boys 49 – Sand Point 63
Sand Point lead 29-22 at the half and extended to a 63-49 victory. Karl Smith lead the Sand Point boys with 22.
