Meet organizers have reintroduced the 4×800-meter relay in place of the 4xAlaska Mile, while also adding the 200-meter dash and the mile for high school athletes for the first time in Big C history.

The Kenai Peninsula Hockey Association’s 12U all-girls Ice Hawks didn’t just win the 12UB Alaska State Hockey Tournament — they made history, becoming the first all-girls team in Alaska to capture a state title in a coed field.

The Kardinals will graduate four seniors in Evelyn Cooper, Willow Graham, McKenzie Spence, and Ellsi Miller, but return a strong core that includes four state tournament starters.

The finish marks Kenai’s best showing at the state tournament since 1981, when the Kardinals finished as runners-up to East Anchorage.

The Kardinals split results at the 3A state basketball tournament on Thursday, the boys with a consolation bracket win, and the girls falling in the semifinals.
