April Baseball Features Non-Conference Play On The Diamond

Baseball in April is always difficult having to deal with weather and field conditions and the fact that the entire baseball game season runs about six weeks.

 

Buddy Dale Invitational Baseball Tournament

The Soldotna Stars opened play at the Buddy Dale Invitational Baseball Tournament in Wasilla on Wednesday with a first round contest against South Anchorage High School.  The Buddy Dale Invitational includes three days of round-robin pool play and a Saturday set of games paired based on tournament records.

SoHi 3 – South 8

The Soldotna Stars score two, first inning runs on two hits for a 2-0 lead.  South answered with five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never relinquished the lead.  SoHi manage a single run in the fourth to close out the Stars’ scoring.  Jeremy Kupferschmid pitched four innings allowing six runs on only four hits (and 6 walks).  Kupferschmid and Jacob Boze recorded the Stars only base hits.

SoHi plays Palmer on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.on the Redington High School Field.

Kenai Baseball 2 – Homer 17     Homer High    

The Homer Mariners hosted Kenai in a non-conference pairing on Wednesday and the Mariners offense continued to impress.

The Mariners took only five innings to record 17 runs in a 17-2 victory over the Kardinals.  Homer plated five, first inning runs and lead 15-0 after three innings.  Mose Hayes started for the Mariners and recorded five strike outs and allowed one hit.
