The Alaska Marine Highway System released its 2020-2021 winter schedule on Tuesday, September 1. They announced that reservations are available for booking at FerryAlaska.com, by calling (800) 642-0066, or by visiting ferry terminal staff throughout the system. The Marine Highway System winter schedule covers ferry travel from October 2020 through April 2021. Fare information is available online or from reservations agents.
Alaska Marine Highway System revenues are significantly lower than expected due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the Department of Transportation noted that it has become necessary to build the schedule with reduced service to most communities. Some service gaps will still exist from vessel overhauls and layups as a result of available funding.
Release of the schedule followed a public comment period held in August. The comment period was an opportunity for communities and individuals to review and comment on the proposed operating plan, and to alert Marine Highway System of significant community events.
The Alaska Marine Highway Reshaping Work Group has been meeting since February, and they will be accepting public testimony on September 2 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Testimony is being accepted via telephone at (844) 586-9085, or via e-mail at [email protected]. The meetings will be streamed online.
