Young and Crawford In Kenai

10/28/2010

The candidates for the only Alaska seat in Congress were in Kenai on Wednesday to give their audience a better perspective of themselves as candidates. Incumbent Don Young continued to emphasize that he is the best man to serve, and, that he isn’t afraid to speak his mind. Crawford emphasized that he is willing to work across the aisle to come to an agreement on legislation.

Both responded to questions, about the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Policy, illegal immigration, healthcare reform, cap and trade, social security, and other topics. Young supports Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, repeal of the healthcare reform act, and believes that Social Security will go broke if it isn’t addressed in the future.
Young admitted he doesn’t have the answer, accept to possibly raise the age for it. Crawford opposes Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, supports an amended version of the healthcare reform act, and believes Social Security needs to be fixed, too. He supports the lock box idea.

Both were asked what federal departments should be eliminated. Young says the Department of Energy needs to go.

Both do agree that fish and wildlife management should be performed by the state, not the federal government.
