Wrestlers Battle At Lancer Smith: Nikiski’s Johnson Wins Title

Wrestlers from throughout the state, including wrestlers from Kenai, Nikiski, Skyview and SoHi, battled at the Lancer Smith Memorial Wrestling Tournament at Palmer High School.

Nikiski’s Lincoln Johnson repeated as champion in the 195-pound weight class; Johnson was the only weight-class champion from the peninsula.

 

Top finishes for area wrestlers:

Kenai:

Hope Steffensen, 2nd place at 106 pounds

Tyler Brown, 5th place at 182 pounds

Jake Dragseth, 5th place at 285 pounds

Nikiski:

Lincoln Johnson, 1st place at 195 pounds

Luke Johnson, 6th place at 195 pounds

Morgan Suave, 6th place at 170 pounds

Skyview:

Seth Hutchison, 2nd place at 98 pounds

Austin Craig, 4th place at 113 pounds

Sam Janorschke, 4th place at 132 pounds

SoHi:

Troy Streiff, 3rd place at 182 pounds

John Alexander, 4th place at 285 pounds

 

Nikiski and Skyview compete in the early winter wrestling season in the 3A division’s Kachemak Conference.  The Kachemak Conference tournament is scheduled for November 30-December 1 at Grace Christian School.  The 1-2-3A state championships will be hosted by Nikiski High School on December 7-8, 2012.
