Winchester Approved By Senate as State Bolt-Action Rifle

The Winchester pre-1964 Model 70 has been approved by the State Senate as Alaska’s official state bolt-action rifle.

Senator Fred Dyson introduced the legislation…

Sen. Dyson(R-Eagle River): “This is the appropriate rifle that defines a weapon that has made a huge contribution in our state and your positive vote will say you recognize that the quality and the performance of this weapon makes it worthy of being chosen. I suggest a yes vote.”

Senator Bert Stedman said he felt a Springfield would have been an equally valid choice, but the bill passed the Senate unanimously and now heads to the House.
