Governor Bill Walker responded to legislative leaders today via letter, saying he would not rescind his proclamation that legislators need to pass a fully funded budget before gaveling out.
In that letter he stated it would be a disservice to Alaskans if the Legislature did not meet its obligation of passing a fully funded budget before leaving Juneau.
Requests of a recess and possibly reconvening in Anchorage were mentioned to Gov. Walker this week as most legislative offices have been packed up and the Capitol’s renovation is set to begin soon.
The Senate agreed to a budget compromise earlier this week however that would only partially fund Alaska’s government for next year.
House Democrats failed to support that compromise which means there could be no draw from state savings to cover costs over concerns with budget cuts.
