Today is the First official Vietnam Veteran’s Day in the State of Alaska. Governor Sean Parnell, Wednesday, signed into law a bill which makes the designation for March 29 each year, in honor of the day that troops left Vietnam.
Governor Parnell said that “although Vietnam veterans were treated shamefully when they returned, these fine veterans became champions for the cause of all veterans, so that no other warrior would have to experience what they did.”
He said Vietnam veterans were a major force in creating services and support for veterans and their families.
The bill, HB 67, was sponsored by Representative Steve Thompson, Co-Chair Veterans Caucus.
