Upper Cook Inlet Commercial Fishing Announcement No. 36 opens set gillnetting in the Kenai, Kasilof, and East Foreland Sections of the Upper Subdistrict on Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Drift gillnetting will be opened in the Kenai and East Foreland Sections on Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
During this fishing period, set and drift gillnets may not have a mesh size greater than four and three-quarters inches. Additionally, set and drift gillnets may not be operated within 600 feet of the shoreline. The term shoreline is defined as the point where the water meets the shore at any stage of the tide.
What the hell, another slap in the coin purse. Running line nets ,the ones within 600 feet of the shoreline is all I have at my fishing sites along with my neighbors to the north the Juliusens. How ironic we are the families that have been at these locations the longest and get to fish the least. I have been fishing 4 3/4 inch gear since 1985!!!The original setnet regulations used to require that one end of your net must always go dry, not sure when that changed . Gov. Wally Hickel talked about going back to this requirement but we knew that would never fly, now we get unfairly treated again. I can legally catch more Kings on a fishing pole than we normally catch all season at Humpy Ponit, this year gets more unbelieveable everyday..Who are these people making such bizzare decisions..they are literally ruining many hard working longtime Alaskan”s lives…
This headline is a bit misleading as this is ONLY an EO that falls under the pink management plan and has very strict and specific regs that fall far outside the norm for a set net beach site.
This headline is a bit misleading as this opener is an EO falling under the Pink Management Plan and will exclude much of the east side set net operations per the gear size and distance off shore required to fish.
