Undefeated, Unmatched & Untouchable-SoHi Records Record Victory

The Soldotna Stars football program, a dynasty in Alaska football ranks, recorded its third-straight, Medium School division football championship on Saturday with a decisive 57-28 victory over the North Pole Patriots in the 2014 ASAA First National Bowl played at Dimond High’s Alumni Field.

With the championship victory, the Stars record a 29th straight victory, including regular season and playoff games dating back to the beginning of the 2012 football season.

 

SoHi Stars 57 – North Pole Patriots 28

The Soldotna Stars dominant defense again lead the way for the Stars potent offense, setting the tone for the game early in the first quarter.

The Stars marched the opening drive 60 yards setting-up a 2-yard touchdown run for Bailey Bloomentritt.  The defense then gave the ball back to the offense with an interception by Ty Fenton.  Fenton then carried for 30 yards and a second SoHi touchdown.  On North Pole’s second possession, the Star’s Sage Hill recovered a fumble and one play later Brooks Furlong bootlegged an 18-yard touchdown run for a 23-0 Star lead, only about 4:30 into the game.  The defense wasn’t finished yet; as the Stars stopped North Pole on downs at the SoHi 10-yard line and the offense marched 90 yards and scored on a Furlong one-yard run.

First quarter totals: SoHi defense= one interception,one fumble, one stop on downs; SoHi 30- North Pole 0

SoHi scored on both second quarter possessions with a 4-yard Jared Chavez run and a 14-yard touchdown pass from Furlong to Fenton.  Halftime score: SoHi 44, North Pole 14.

The Stars added a pair of third quarter scores with a 2-yard Fenton run and a 1-yard Furlong TD run.

The Stars defense held North Pole to two touchdowns and only two possessions in the second half;  SoHi’s offense managing and controlling the clock and the Stars recovering two, on-side kicks.

For the game, Ty Fenton rushed for for 146 yards; Furlong added 76 yards and Jared Chavez (with increased carries due to an injury to Drew Gibbs) added 71 yards; as SoHi totaled 400 rushing yards using ten different ball carriers.  Furlong passed for 57 yards and a touchdown and completes his senior season without an interception.

Final Score: SoHi 57, North Pole 28
