Two Elected, Two Appointed, Two Returning For City Coucil

In the past year, the Soldotna City Council has seen a lot of change; after the recent election, just two members of the Council remain unchanged: newly-appointed Vice Mayor Regina Daniels, and Pete Sprague. Meggean Bos was elected to seat B and Keith Baxter to Seat E.

Last night, the Council interviewed four applicants for Seats A and C, chosing Paul Whitney for Seat A and Linda Murphy for Seat C…

Cm. Murphy: “You know, I’ve been involved in public service for most of my adult life. I’m no longer on the Assembly, I think that I have something to add to this body, because I’ve had a wealth of experience both on the appointed side and the elected side.”

We asked Murphy how the changes will affect Soldotna…

Cm. Murphy: “There are four people on the council now who’ve never been on this council, and so yes the dynamic might be a bit different. I don’t think you’re likely to see big policy changes, however. The former Council, they were reasonable people, I think this is a council of reasonable people, so I don’t expect to see any big changes.”

Murphy and former Council Member Dale Bagley have effectively swapped seats, as he takes the Soldotna Seat on the Borough Assembly.
