Twins Eliminated and Wasilla Disqualified At Legion Baseball State

The Post 20 Twins American Legion baseball team battled Chugiak in the double-elimination, loser’s bracket round on Monday, falling to Chugiak 11-8.  The Twins are eliminated from the state tournament with their second tournament loss.

The Twins, trailing 8-4 into the seventh inning, tied the game at 8-8 with a four-run seventh; only to allow three runs in the eighth inning for an 11-8 Chugiak victory.

Chugiak Post 33 advances to play Juneau Post 25 on Tuesday in state tournament play;  Juneau advances due to a disqualification of Wasilla.  The Wasilla team used an ineligible player in its 2-1 victory over Juneau on Monday.  By American Legion rule, no player can participate in a baseball activity that causes that player to miss games by his/her Post team; a player for Wasilla played in the lower 48 during a period of time this summer.

The penalty forced Wasilla to forfeit Monday’s 2-1 victory over Juneau and counts as Wasilla’s second tournament loss, thus eliminated Wasilla from the tournament.

Service and Dimond advance in the winner’s bracket to face each other on Tuesday.
