Troopers Investigating Car Versus ATV Crash on K-Beach

Friday the 26th, just before 10:45pm, the Alaska State Troopers received a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle crash.

Trooper investigation revealed that 22-year-old Austin Struthers of Sterling was driving a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser northbound near mile 21 of the K-Beach Road.

Mr. Struthers became distracted and drove off the roadway at 45 mph whereupon he struck an on-coming ATV 4-wheeler that was driving on the side of the roadway, in the opposite direction of the PT Cruiser.

Due to the collision, the ATV rider, 27-year-old Justin Millage Soldotna, was thrown off the ATV, while the Cruiser drove into a pond off the roadway and became disabled.

Troopers responded and further investigation revealed Millage was operating the ATV while under the influence of alcohol, whereupon he was arrested for DUI and remanded to Wildwood Pretrial and held without bail due to a prior DUI.

Mr. Struthers was released from the scene and charges of Assault in the 3rd degree and Reckless Driving will be forwarded against him to the District Attorney’s office.

Troopers say the investigation will continue.
