Troopers Find Missing Snowmachiner in Caribou Hills

Sunday night, just before 10:15pm, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of overdue snowmachiner in the Caribou Hills area.

Trooper investigation determined the snowmachiner, later identified as 51-year-old Charles D. Moore of Homer, had left his residence near 14 mile East End Road at about noon on Sunday, and had not returned by dark.

Troopers, however, were unable to begin search efforts due to the darkness and inclement weather.

Yesterday morning, at 9:30, the Alaska State Troopers , Kachemak Emergency Services and a local snowmachine club called the Snomads organized and deployed several hasty search teams into the Caribou Hills area.

Pathfinder Aviation committed a helicopter to the search effort in an attempt to locate Moore from the air.

Moore was located right around Noon yesterday, and was not suffering from any serious injury as a result of the overnight stay in the Caribou Hills area.  The search was concluded just after 1:45pm after all searchers returned from the field.
