Troopers Conduct Search Mission for 16yo Girl on Flat Top

Just after 12:35 this morning, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a missing hiker in the Flat Top area.

Information obtained from other members of the hiking party was that the group started toward O’Malley Peak when an unidentified 16-year old girl got separated from the group.

She was to wait near the half-way point and rejoin the group when they hiked out.   When the group came out, the girl was missing.  They continued to the Glen Alps trail head but were unable to locate her.


Troopers responded and conducted a hasty search consisting of a trooper, an APD officer with a police K9, and members of the original hiking party.

The hasty team was unable to locate the missing girl.

Crews with the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group, State Parks, and Alaska Search and Rescue Dogs responded to assist.

Just after 6:00am, the missing girl was located by the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group.  She was cold and tired and had lost her shoes during the night but was able to travel out with assistance.
