Trooper Chase Lands Soldotna Man in Jail

A 22-year old Soldotna man is being held on $21,000 bail after a chase along the Seward Highway.

Tylor Arndt was stopped yesterday afternoon (Sunday) at 2:20pm for an equipment violation. He was driving a blue Ford Focus at mile 73 of the Seward highway. According to Troopers, Arndt gave a false name before speeding north on the Highway, in excess of 110 mph. Arndt then turned north at the Portage Highway and continued to the Whittier Tunnel.

Pursuing Troopers say the Ford crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and beneath a DOT gate as workers were attempting to close the tunnel. Arndt continued through the tunnel, passing vehicles in emergency pullouts before sideswiping a black Cadillac SUV as he was trying to pass.

The chase continued for several hundred feet, before Arndt got out of the car and ran towards the Whittier end of the tunnel. He was found hiding behind a portable restroom inside the tunnel near the Whittier end.

Troopers found Arndt had an outstanding felony arrest warrants for a probation violation and eluding. Arndt was also driving with a revoked license and in violation of a limited license.

The Soldotna resident was remanded at the Anchorage Jail in lieu of $21,000 bond on eight charges, plus the outstanding warrants. The charges include: failing to stop at the direction of a peace officer in the first degree, making a false report, reckless driving, driving while license revoked, failure to report an accident, driving in violation of a limited license, and two counts of Assault 3rd for placing the occupants of the Cadillac SUV in fear of serious physical injury.

No one was injured in the incident.
