Captain Andy Greenstreet with the Soldotna Post of the Alaska State Troopers says he’s been excited about educating the public about AST operations.

For this reason, they’ve been offering the AST Citizen’s Academy…

Capt. Greenstreet: “Well last week was the seventh week in our eleven week program for the local law enforcement citizen’s academy. We’ve got a really good group, everybody is very much involved and a part of the training process.”

Captain Greenstreet said they’ve been touching on a variety of topics, giving local residents a well-rounded understanding of what Troopers do.

Capt. Greenstreet: “To date we’ve handled a variety of topics from canine applications to our segment on the DPS training academy, personal safety and defensive tactics, we’ve had search and rescue segments and just a myriad of different topics that Troopers do, and so we’re passing some of that information on to our citizen’s academy.”

Academy graduation is set for May 22.
