An Alaska Native art piece reported missing from the Juneau International Airport has been found thanks to a woman who gave police a tip.
Detective Nick Garza said the woman called Friday and spoke with police after reading about the missing silkscreen cedar painting in the newspaper. He said the woman told police she had been shown the piece of art by a man in an attempt to determine its worth.
The man said he found the artwork which represents the Tlingit Eagle clan in the trees along a trail near the airport. Detective Garza said the man handed it over and was not a thief.
The artwork was on load to the airport and was reported missing in late July. The case was sent to the district attorney’s office for consideration of possible charges.
