Tesoro Wants More Alaska Oil

Many in the state are tired of the current federal regulations that are in place, due to negative impact on new oil and gas production. Tesoro’s Kip Knutson says the recent jump in crude oil prices needs to be addressed.

We asked him,if Alaska produced more crude oil for Tesoro and others, how much lower would gasoline cost.

He said Tesoro currently purchases oil from the North Slope, Cook Inlet, Russia, and Indonesia. He said the close the crude oil is from the refinery, the cheaper the price is. Finally, we asked him if there is any chance the price of local gasoline can be closer to the price in Anchorage. He repeated what has been said before, the Kenai Peninsula Borough needs to eliminate its six percent sales tax for every dollar of gasoline purchased.
