Teen Raises $3,000+ For Firefighters

Posted: October 28, 2013 at 6:06 am

Jessica Roper raised over $3,000 last Saturday in an ongoing project to provide swiftwater training for local fire fighters.  Her efforts have gained national attention…

Roper: “Lisa Murkowski ended up sending me a U.S. Flag that was flown over the Capitol of the United States in honor of my swiftwater program.”

That flag was one of the items auctioned off during Saturday’s Spaghetti Feed and Silent Auction. Central Emergency Services Chief Chris Mokracek said the firefighters were impressed with the fundraiser…

Chief Mokracek: “Oh, it’s awesome. She’s set the bar so high with this event. She identified a need and stepped up, and just took it way farther than we could have expected, and it’s just an amazing program she’s put together.”

While there aren’t any fundraisers planned at this time, Roper intends to raise $13,000. Donations can be dropped off to Central Emergency Services in Soldotna.
