Today, July 17, marks 40 years since the U.S. Senate approved construction of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) Alaska.
U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski was celebrating, saying it was “a monumental decision that has shaped the trajectory of Alaska to this day.”
However, Sen. Murkowski also took an opportunity to discuss declining production.
Murkowski said all American should be concerned about “the decrease in oil flowing through TAPS,” since “the loss of one-fifth of our country’s oil output is no small matter.”
Murkowski pressed for greater access to oil on federal lands.
