Studded Tire Laws Unique for the Sterling Highway

The deadline to remove studded tires for areas south of the 60th parallel has been changed to May 1st for this year, to match the rest of the state. We recently spoke to Rick Feller with the state Department of Transportation, who said that there is some unique laws when it comes to the Sterling Highway corridor.

Feller: ” Essentially, if you live north of the 60th parallel, and you have that longer studded tire usage and you travel south, if you’re traveling south on the Sterling you can carry that same exemption with you. Likewise, those folks living south of the 60th parallel that travel on the paved portion of the Sterling Highway can also enjoy that same time.”
