Firefighters from Central Emergency Services were called to a residence on Kendanemkin Drive, located off Mackey Lake Road, yesterday morning at 9:30 a.m., after it was learned that a structure at that location was on fire. According to CES, the first units arrived within five minutes, but, a large amount of smoke and flames could be seen. CES said there were no humans in the structure, however, a dog did die in the blaze.
It took approximately four hours to completely extinguish the blaze, but, the structure was not a complete loss. The value of the building, owned by Joe Gurley, is $263,000. The damage was estimated to be $150,000. CES was able to save a good amount of the building and a large amount of the contents. Those investigating the cause of the fire say the fire started in a garage, located in the middle of the building; and it most likely originated from combustible material located close to the boiler.
