Strong Job Growth Forecasted for Local Area

The 2013 Industry Outlook Forum put on by the Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District began this morning in Homer.

Alyssa Shanks, Economist with the Alaska Dept. of Labor and Workforce development spoke to the forum, saying that the state is continuing to forecast for continued job growth statewide.

Shanks said that the Kenai Peninsula Borough is forecasted to see 1.9% job growth for 2013. In 2012, Shanks said that the local area say nearly 3% job growth at 2.7% in 2012, however, the local area has fallen below the statewide average for population growth, at 1.1%.

Job growth for the Kenai Peninsula Borough has continued to strongly outpace statewide figures, however, the strong influx of seasonal jobs have lead the local area to see higher unemployment numbers than the state, but that figure has declined over the part decade.
