The Sterling Highway is closed just before mile 42 due to a two car collision. Mile 42 is located near the junction of the Sterling and Seward Highways.
The Bureau of Highway Patrol is taking over the investigation into the wreck at mile 41.4 of the Sterling Highway. A small Ford ecomony-sized car was traveling southbound on the Sterling Highway when it crossed the centerline for unknown reasons. The vehicle spun sideways as it crossed the centerline. An SUV traveling in the Northbound lane struck the smaller vehicle on the driver’s side. A trooper drove on to the scene of the wreck at approximately 3:10 pm. He called additional resources to the scene and attempted live saving measures on the driver the Ford but those efforts were unsuccessful. Both Cooper Landing and Moose Pass EMS respond to the scene of the collision. The Ford’s driver was declared deceased on scene by medics. The driver was the only occupant of that vehicle. The SUV was occupied by an adult driver and three minor passengers. All four were transported to Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna with what are believed to be non lifethreatening injuries. Those injured/killed in this accident will not be named until next of kin has been notified.
The highway is anticipated to be closed until approximately 11:00 pm.

First of all my thoughts and prayers go out to all involved. Now for my question why is everytime there is a wreck on that highway they have to shut it down for 8-12 hours? What on earth takes that long?
Jake an accident has to be investigated especially when there is a fatality, this takes time to investigate & I’m sure if you were a family member of those involved you’d appreciate this!
Jake, they stay closed for that long because when there is a fatality troopers have to do a proper investigation of the scene to determine the at fault driver
