Governor Sean Parnell’s State of the State Address, Wednesday night has gained high regard from the small business community.
Denny DeWitt, Alaska state director for the National Federation of Independent Business said that his group is applauding Gov. Sean Parnell for putting forth an agenda that will help home-grown small businesses in real ways.
DeWitt sadi that Parnell’s commitment to “sponsor legislation that will correct the formulaic imbalance of continued funding by employers for an Alaska Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund that is already fully funded is the first thing small-business owners have to cheer about.
“Additionally, his pledge to implement federal requirements on erroneous unemployment payments will help make the state’s unemployment insurance system more secure and less costly. Added to our delight with the his State-of-the-State speech is the governor’s call to limit legal penalties to intentional acts rather than simple errors on the part of employers, something requested by the National Federation of Independent Business/Alaska.
DeWitt said that as a former NFIB member, Governor Parnell fundamentally understands that small businesses are not smaller versions of bigger businesses, but instead have uniquely different difficulties in remaining solvent.”
