There was a special public meeting Saturday afternoon to discuss the proposed Kasilof River Special Use Area. Many members of the local community took to Tustumena Elementary to let their voice be heard on this issue. Borough Assemblymen Brent Johnson, who’s district includes the Kasilof area comments on the feelings of the public.

Rick Thompson of the Department of Natural Resources took the public comment, and told us the next step in the Special Use Area process.

This meeting was called by Senator Tom Wagoner of Kenai earlier in the month to allow for more comment on the state’s proposal. Wagoner was unable to make it to the meeting due to weather conditions in Juneau.
