State DNR Commissioner Deploying with U.S. Marines

Dan Sullivan, Commissioner of the state Department of Natural Resources is deploying to Afghanistan after being recalled to active duty with the U.S. Marines.

Elizabeth Bluemink with the State DNR says that Sullivan will be on leave for six weeks, as his deployment began Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner Joe Balash has been named as acting commissioner during Sullivan’s deployment.

Sullivan has held his current post for nearly three years, and was the state’s attorney general previously.

Sullivan serves as the executive officer of the 4th Marine Division’s Anti-Terrorism Battalion in the the Marine Corps Reserve.

He has previously been recalled to duty from December 2004 to April 2006, and again in early 2009.
