State American Legion Baseball Tournament Opens July 25

The 2013 Alaska American Legion State Baseball Tournament opened play on Thursday, July 25th at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage.

 

The Post 20 Twins fell to the legion team from Fairbanks 6-4 in the first round.

Fairbanks was the No. 10 seed. Kenai was No. 7.

Fairbanks’ Ford crushed a two-run home run in the second inning to highlight the 10-hit attack.  Hector Rivera drove in two runs for Kenai and Tommy Bowe had a RBI. Brandon Mahle started for the Twins and threw seven innings.

The Twins, the returning state champions from 2012, continue tournament play on Saturday at noon at Mulcahy Park; the Twins are off on Friday.  The Twins will play Dimond, who lost in the first round to Chugiak 14-2.  Last year at the state tournament, Post 20 lost its first game and advanced to the state championship through the double-elimination bracket with seven-straight victories.
