The 2012 ASAA 1-2-3A State Wrestling Championships featured two days of competition at Nikiski High School with champions crowned in 15 weight classes, including two local wrestlers.
1-2-3A Wrestling Championships: Central Peninsula Results
Lincoln Johnson of Nikiski and Seth Hutchison from Skyview each wrestled to state championships with undefeated runs through their respective weight classes. The Nikiski Bulldogs finished third in the team scoring behind Kotzebue and 1-2-3A State Champion Bethel.
Lincoln Johnson won the 195 pound division, defeating his younger brother Luke Johnson in the championship match 3-0. Both Johnson brothers advanced into the championship round by pinning all opponents in the two-day competition. Lincoln, a senior at Nikiski, was the 182-pound champion in 2011; Luke, a freshman at Nikiski, finishes as runner-up at 195 for 2012.
Skyview freshman Seth Hutchison, wrestling at 98 pounds, earned his first 1-2-3A state championship and became the fourth member of the Hutchison family to win an Alaska wrestling state title. Seth won the championship match 10-1. Next in a long line of Skyview Hutchison champions, Seth joins brothers Zeb, Eli and sister Michaela as state individual champions.
Nikiski’s Morgan Suave and Skyview’s Sam Janorschke each finished with runner-up medals; Suave in the 170-pound weight class and Sam Janorschke in the 132-pound weight class. Other top four finishes included: Skyview’s Austin Craig, 4th at 113 lbs.; Nikiski’s Josh Brown, 3rd at 152 lbs.
