The Soldotna Stars dropped a 3-0 decision to the Lathrop Malemutes in the ASAA First National Cup State Hockey Championships 4th place game on Saturday.
Both teams battled through two and a half periods of scoreless hockey before Lathrop scored a power-play goal for a 1-0 lead. Lathrop added a second goal late in the third period and an empty net goal to cap the scoring. Final score: Lathrop 3 – SoHi 0.
SoHi 5 – West Valley 4
The Soldotna Stars scored a break-away, overtime goal by Jonas Perletti to defeat West Valley at the ASAA First National Cup State Hockey Championships on Friday morning; the win advanced the Stars to the 4th place game..
The Soldotna Stars Dalton Pearson scored two first-period goals against West Valley giving SoHi a 2-0 lead after the first period. West Valley answered with a pair of early goals in the second to tie the game at 2-2. SoHi added a power play goal by Jarrett Urban to lead 3-2 after two periods of hockey. The Wolfpack responded with a pair of third period goal and lead into the final minute of regulation.
Following a SoHi time out, the Stars pulled goalie Cody Harvey for an extra attacker, won the face-off, and scored the game-tying goal of the stick of Dalton Pearson. The game tied at 4-4 after regulation.
In the overtime period, Jonas Perletti scores the game-winner for a 5-4 SoHi victory.
SoHi 2 – Service 3
The Soldotna Stars, #2 seed from the North Star Conference, faced Service High, #2 seed from the Cook Inlet Conference, in the first round of the ASAA Large School State Hockey Championships at the Menard Arena in Wasilla.
Service held on for a 3-2 victory, fighting-off a third period SoHi rally.
SoHi’s Nick Wrobel scored two goals in the final period to draw the Stars to within a goal of the Cougars.
SoHi continues tourament play with an 8:00 a.m. game on Friday against the West Valley Wolfpack.
