The undefeated Soldotna Stars football team is set to battle the Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears football team for the Medium School football championship on Saturday, October 26 at the Anchorage Football Stadium.  Game time is scheduled for noon.  The game will be broadcast on ESPN 1140AM and www.radiokenai.com.

SoHi vs Juneau   Medium School Football Championship

The Soldotna Stars, the reigning Medium School Football State Champions, take to the field on Saturday gunning for a second-straight Medium School title and a sixth state championship since Alaska divisionalized high school football in 2000.

The Stars dominating offense averaged 60+ points per game in the regular season and has averaged 66 points-per-game in two playoff games; including a 69-13 victory over Houston and a 63-33 defeat of North Pole in the semi-final contest.  SoHi’s rushing attack amassed nearly 600 yards against North Pole including 345 yards for fullback Jake Kooly and 177 yards for Drew Gibbs.  The Stars also have the best passing/rushing quarterback in Northern Lights Conference in Colten Young.

The Stars defense can be stifling and the defensive and offensive lines have controlled play in every SoHi game behind Dan Rosin and Dylan Smith.

SoHi’s linebackers and defensive backs will be tested by Southeast Conference Offensive Player of the Year and SEC Kick Returner of the Year Demetrius Campos.  Campos lead Juneau and the SEC with 19 regular season touchdowns and averaged 10.5 yards per carry.  In Juneau’s playoff victory 42-15 over Kenai, Campos rushed for 208 yards on 20 carries and returned a kick-off for a touchdown.  Juneau’s lineup includes Southeast Conference 1st team offense selections: Campos, Dorian Isaak, quarterback, George Sua, fullback, and Kris Hill, receiver.

Juneau, in its first season in Medium School football, and Soldotna High, in its third-straight Medium School playoffs, have never met in the football playoffs; although, both teams played in the 1999 ASAA State Football Championships 8-team bracket (SoHi last appearance in the large-school division).
