Sportfishermen Estimate $17million Hit to Industry

With a second year of extensive King Salmon closures,  we asked Ricky Gease with the Kenai River Sportfishing Association about the impact on the sportfishing industry…


Gease: “The low abundance last year, I think it was calculated to be about $17 million in negative economic impacts for the sport fisheries in Cook Inlet, and I’m sure we’re probably at that mark or more than this year.”


Gease said many guides find it difficult to book clients in the face of so much uncertainty and are turning to different fisheries or simply not returning.
