Homer, Seward, Kodiak and other areas have been virtually shutdown due to this latest storms that crossed Kodiak, Homer, Seward and the Portage Valley.
In Homer, yesterday, there were reports of over a foot of snow. It closed Homer schools on Tuesday. School is back in session, today. Homer’s city offices were closed on Tuesday. The Homer Police Department said only essentual city employees had to work. Homer Electric crews were also called to restore power to a small number of residents in the Homer area.
In Seward, the Public Works Department estimated 15 to 17 inches of snow as of noon, yesterday. Plus, the Seward City Clerk was urging boatowners to clear their boats of snow to prevent any boats from sinking into the Seward Harbor.
In Kodiak, the Associated Press was reporting ten inches of snow fell, closing the Kodiak airport. All flights were canceled on Tuesday, and three boats had sunk. Also, many Kodiak roads had flooded.
Although the storm has left the Kenai Peninsula, the National Weather Service is advising everyone that another storm is on its way.
Winter weather advisories are being posted for all areas of the Kenai Peninsula, along with Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley.
For the Kenai-Soldotna area, the advisory starts tonight and continues tonight and continues to 3 p.m. Thursday.
The weather service says the heaviest snow will fall north of Clam Gulch, with accumulations of up to 12 inches through Thursday afternoon.
The weather service expects the snow to start this evening and intensify through tomorrow morning. After that, the snow is expected to change over to snow showers Thursday afternoon.
